本魚分布佇印度西太平洋區，包括紅海、波斯灣、巴基斯坦、印度、韓國、日本、中國、台灣、越南遮的海域。<br />

本魚體延長，前部亞圓筒型，後部邊扁，腹肚圓形。頭圓錐形，小爿扁，兩爿隆起，峽部較狹。脂性頂目蚶發達。第一背鰭之起來的到吻端之距離，小於至尾基之距離。第一陵頭尾有一隆起稜。後壁面呈青殕色，腹肚邊銀白色，體邊仔暗色縱帶條紋。背鰭、魚尾叉色、魚腹翼、臀鰭小呈淡黃色。尻脊嶺硬篤四至五枚、尻脊骿軟條八到九枚；臀鰭硬篤三枚、臀鰭條八到十枚。一縱列鱗片三十六到四十一枚。體長可長十八公分。<br />

本魚就歇佇沿海佮河口區，生卵期佇冬尾春初，卵浮性。稚魚濾食浮游生物，隨成長，食性由動物性轉做植物性，以吞食塗內底的矽藻佮有機的碎幼仔。<br />
