G.R.霍廷

傑拉德 ・ R ・ 霍廷（英語：Gerald R . Hawting，一千九百四十四－）是一位英國歷史學者，主攻伊斯蘭學。

生平

一九七八年，霍廷號做博士學位，伯納德 ・ 劉易斯佮約翰 ・ 萬斯布魯是霍廷的導師。伊捌任倫敦大學亞非學院近東、中東歷史教師，現在榮休。

研究

伊的研究繼承導師約翰 ・ 萬斯彼个布魯的路線，專注研究伊斯蘭教誕生的宗教背景。伊詳細研究了記載前伊斯蘭時期阿拉伯半島宗教狀況的史料。伊認為講，伊斯蘭教並無像八七八九世紀伊斯蘭著作中描寫的彼款彼款，是對多神教的環境發展起來的，是佇咧各種一神教互相鬥爭的基礎頂頭發展起來的。

霍廷的另外一个研究領域是佇伊斯蘭教的發展過程當中起重要的作用的矮馬亞王朝，另外伊閣有研究伊巴德派的著作。伊學術上屬於伊斯蘭研究的懷疑派。
